Il Turno, a «comic-humorous novella on Sicilian themes», was published in Catania in 1902 by the publisher Giannotta, although it was written in the mid-1890s.
An atypical and highly enjoyable product of Pirandello's workshop, the novel (almost a long story) revisits and reinterprets, from a comic perspective, the issues and characters at the heart of L'Esclusa.
