The National Commission has undertaken a review of Pirandello's correspondence in order to create a unified and, as far as possible, complete map of existing evidence. The aim is to transcribe and chronologically order in a single edition the vast and varied collection of letters, postcards, notes, and telegrams—both published and unpublished—written by Pirandello throughout his life.
Scholars will find in this correspondence a series of important details for reconstructing Pirandello's writing process and biographical story. All readers will be able to venture into the real and inner world of the Agrigento-born writer, following his evolution from his youth to his later years. Starting with the Letters to his family and the German letters, the so-called Letters from Bonn, we arrive at the years of intense ‘theatrical’ correspondence, where the correspondence with Marta Abba stands out among others.
Thanks to a special search mask, the archive can be consulted by sender, recipient, year, keyword, place, and volume of the correspondence. It will thus be possible to track down letters that are relevant to a specific research purpose or simply to explore the corpus. Within this section, it will also be possible to access the complete correspondence, arranged chronologically and divided into volumes by five-year period.
